Pastor Allen D. Smith

 Rev. Smith’s service to God began under the leadership of the late Reverend E.D. Nation at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Rayville, Louisiana.

On a scholarship, he attended Southern University at Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He graduated in 1986 with honors.
 
Being a chosen vessel, he began his active service for the Lord. He became a deacon-in-training at the Antioch Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas. He also served as a deacon at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Oakland, California and at Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ in Kansas City, Missouri under the leadership of Rev. Earl Abel.
 
On April 27, 1997, Rev. Smith preached his first sermon and became licensed by the Palestine Missionary Baptist Church to preach the gospel. He became an ordained minister on June 3, 1998.
 
 
Pastor Smith is very active in the Salina Community.  He is a man sent by God and ordained to duty for the body of Christ, at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church.

 

Rev. Allen D. Smith officially took the pulpit on April 5, 1999. He is happily married to Shalonda. Together, they have been blessed with two wonderful children, Adria and Devin Smith. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Youth Pastor

Rev. Brandon J. Cheeks Sr.

Rev. Brandon J. Cheeks Sr. was born in Memphis, Tennessee.Rev. Cheeks accepted Christ at the age of 12 at Temple of Deliverance COGIC under the late Bishop G.E. Patterson. He began preaching and licensed at the age of 23, at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church under his mentor and Pastor Allen D. Smith. He was ordained in 2016 and faithfully serves as the Youth Pastor at St. John's MBC. 

In between fulfilling his calling into the ministry, Rev. Cheeks received a degree in History at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas and is currently a 7th grade teacher at Lakewood Middle School in Salina.  In addition, he is over the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Head Basketball, Cross Country, and Track coach at Lakewood. He served on various committees and board in Salina. He continued his education and received his master's in Educational Leadership in 2017 from Kansas State University. 

Rev. Brandon J. Cheeks Sr. is happily married to his lovely wife Mrs. Ralita Cheeks. They are the proud parents of two sons and five daughters: the late Brandon Cheeks Jr., Tamia, Jalen, Bralynn, Reagan, Rhythm, and Bree.

Melody K. Bowen

Melody K. Bowen was born in Enid, OK and raised in Hill City, KS. She came to Salina in 1981 for employment reasons and has been here ever since. She has two daughters, Audrina, Nicole and two grandchildren, Jasmine,and Hezekiah.

She was raised in the Methodist Church. After coming to Salina she joined First United Methodist Church. Then a few years later decided she was searching for something else. She was then invited to attend St. John's Missionary Baptist Church in November, 2000 and has been here ever since.

She is active in choir, Pastors Advisory board, along with Sunday School and Bible study.
