Rev. Smith’s service to God began under the leadership of the late Reverend E.D. Nation at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Rayville, Louisiana.
On a scholarship, he attended Southern University at Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He graduated in 1986 with honors.
Being a chosen vessel, he began his active service for the Lord. He became a deacon-in-training at the Antioch Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas. He also served as a deacon at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Oakland, California and at Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ in Kansas City, Missouri under the leadership of Rev. Earl Abel.
On April 27, 1997, Rev. Smith preached his first sermon and became licensed by the Palestine Missionary Baptist Church to preach the gospel. He became an ordained minister on June 3, 1998.
Pastor Smith is very active in the Salina Community. He is a man sent by God and ordained to duty for the body of Christ, at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church.
Rev. Allen D. Smith officially took the pulpit on April 5, 1999. He is happily married to Shalonda. Together, they have been blessed with two wonderful children, Adria and Devin Smith.
Minister Of Music
“And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, and with singing, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.” (1 Chron. 13:8) We are a strong and committed choral ministry at SJMBC. If you have a desire to sing for God and community, and want to be part of a lively choir, then look no further! We have an exciting ministry, and you could be a part of it. So come on out and SING!
Evette has been the Church secretary for nine years. She has been a member of St. John's Missionary Baptist Church since childhood. She has served on the Usher Board, Young Matrons, and the Music Ministry at St. John's.
For the past two years she has served as director of the St. John's Kid Kare Program, an after school mentoring/educational program for youth. Evette is the proud mother of a 10 year old son and also a foster parent.
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6).
Goals for the Youth Ministry:
- To provide tools for the enhancement of their spiritual growth.
- To empower the youth to have the desire to study the word and pray daily.
- To teach the youth the importance and benefits of mission work.
- To empower youth to have the desire to pursue mission work.
Our goal is to provide a safe and educational environment for children.
Our mission is to provide a after school program dedicated to enhancing the academic and social skills of children and youth. The St. John's Kid Kare purpose is to help young people improve their lives by building their self-esteem, developing life skills, values and encouraging academic enrichment regardless of race, gender, age or religion.
